(Morung Photo) Kia Motors, which made its debut in the Indian automobile market in August 2019, officially entered the Nagaland market in August 2024 with its dealership located at 6th Mile, near NSC Indian Oil Petrol Pump in Dimapur. As part of its state-wide outreach strategy, the company has been organizing roadshows and promotional campaigns across Nagaland, with a specific focus on engaging potential customers at the district level. One district that has drawn particular attention is Zunheboto, where company officials reported “an overwhelmingly positive response from residents.” Speaking to the media, the team leader from Kia highlighted that customers from Zunheboto have shown keen interest in Kia’s offerings, and reportedly, there have been no complaints or negotiation issues raised so far. “This,” the company stated, “reflects a strong potential market and an encouraging reception for their vehicles in the district.” “Our goal is to provide not just vehicles, but safety, comfort, and convenience. We're pleased to see the level of trust and interest shown by the people of Zunheboto,” the team leader remarked. Kia’s recent promotional efforts include showcasing upcoming models like the Kia Klavis EV, scheduled for launch later this month. While product highlights such as electronic stability control, parking sensors, and ADAS features were part of the demonstration, the broader objective remains to connect with communities across Nagaland. The company's roadshow strategy, according to representatives, “is not just a marketing campaign but also a response to the unique logistical and communication challenges of reaching remote regions.” It was stated that “by visiting districts directly, Kia aims to build trust and offer firsthand interaction with prospective customers.” In addition to vehicle demonstrations, Kia is also promoting “customer-friendly services such as wireless software updates via Kia Connect 2.0, smart access through mobile apps and digital keys, and service support through the MyKia app.” However, the company clarified that “while it offers car exchange services, vehicles from Ford, Renault, and Chevrolet are currently excluded from this policy.”Regarding financing, the team shared that government employees are eligible for a low down-payment scheme subject to salary verification, while in-house financing is available for all customers with proper documentation and a guarantor. Car sales clock 15.5 per cent surge to 4.66 lakh units in Jan (2025-06-14T12:23:00+05:30)
New Delhi, (IANS): Car sales in India surged by a robust 15.53 per cent to 4,65,920 in January this year, according to data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) on Thursday. Sequentially, month-on-month car sales were up 58.77 per cent. "PV (passenger-vehicle) sales grew robustly, although some of that spike stems from December purchases registered in January for a 2025 model year advantage," FADA President CS Vigneshwar said in a statement. "Inventory levels have improved, dropping by around five days to 50-55 days, suggesting improved supply-demand balance. Many dealers noted improved demand, but also pointed to last year's heavy discounting, which helped clear older models and shift registrations," he added. The "positive indicators" listed in the FADA report include the marriage season and promotions. It expects the wedding demand for cars, SUVs and two-wheelers and fresh product introductions to sustain footfalls. Improved liquidity in pockets, with the budget exempting all individuals who earn up to Rs 12.75 lakhs a year from paying income tax. The zero tax bracket now covers 1 crore individuals which is expected to boost the demand for vehicles. Two-wheeler sales are up 4.15 per cent year-on-year to 15,25,862 units with new model launches, the ongoing marriage season demand and enhanced financing options giving a fillip to purchases. This is also reflected in the rural segment posting a stronger growth in vehicle purchases at 18.57 per cent vs. 13.72 per cent in urban, according to FADA figures. Commercial vehicle sales were up 8.22 per cent year-on-year to 99,425 units driven by higher freight rates and buoyant passenger carrier demand while three-wheeler sales grew 6.86 per cent to 1,07,033 units. Tractor sales recorded a 5.23 per cent increase year-on-year at 93,381 units reflecting a better agricultural season that led to a rise in farmers' incomes. It said select lenders offering better financing, plus backlogged commercial vehicle orders also lend guarded optimism for higher growth ahead. It also highlights that dealer confidence has risen with nearly half (46 per cent) of them anticipating growth in February, echoing hopes of stable-to-rising sales. Nearly half (46 per cent) of the FADA dealers anticipate growth in the coming month, while 43 per cent expect sales to stay flat and 11 per cent foresee a dip. The continuing wedding season, new cars and motorcycles, improved inventory management and better financing options are fuelling the optimism in what is a curtailed month."However, strict lending criteria, costlier vehicles and subdued demand in certain industrial sectors could weigh on overall performance," Vigneshwar said. Market share of electric cars in India accelerates past 4 pc in May (2025-06-14T12:22:00+05:30)
New Delhi, June 8 (IANS): The market share of electric passenger vehicles ( EVs) in India accelerated past the 4 per cent mark in May this year, from 2.6 per cent in the same month of the previous year, reflecting the increasing popularity of electric cars among Indian buyers as the country transitions to green mobility, data compiled by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) shows. The share of electric passenger sales in May is also 0.5 percentage points higher than the 3.5 per cent share in April as part of the rising trend. The retail data shows 12,304 electric cars were sold during the month, compared to just 8,029 units in May 2024. The sales of electric cars in April this year stood at 12,233 units. “This is an important milestone in our industry’s journey towards electrification. This growth has been driven by improvements in battery technology, better range, and lower costs compared to earlier electric PV models,” Fada CEO Saharsh Damani said. Tata Motors maintained its market leadership in the electric car segment by selling 4,351 units during the month. Its closest competitor, JSW MG Motor, reported a strong year-on-year surge of 149 per cent, selling 3,765 electric cars in May, while Mahindra & Mahindra was ranked third with 2,632 units sold during the month. These top three electric car companies account for as much as over 87 per cent of total sales in the segment, according to FADA figures However, FADA projects that global supply-chain headwinds (rare-earth constraints in EV components, geopolitical tensions) may limit urban consumer sentiment and exert cost pressure. China, which is the dominant supplier of rare earth magnets, a critical component for the manufacture of electric vehicles, has started imposing restrictions on exports, which could pose supply chain problems. “If the supply situation for rare earth materials doesn’t improve, we could see production slowdowns that may impact retail sales in the near future,” Damani said. Meanwhile, the government notified guidelines on Monday for its forward-looking scheme to enable fresh investments from global manufacturers in the electric cars segment and promote India as a global manufacturing hub for e-vehicles. To encourage global manufacturers such as US tech giant Tesla to invest under the scheme, the approved applicants will be allowed to import completely built-in units (CBUs) of electric four-wheelers with a minimum CIF (cost insurance and freight value) of $35,000 at reduced customs duty of 15 per cent for a period of five years from the date that the application is approved. Approved applicants would be required to make a minimum investment of Rs 4,150 crore in line with the provisions of the scheme. The maximum number of e-4Ws allowed to be imported at the reduced duty rate will be capped at 8,000 units per year. Report Claims All Next-Gen Ferraris will get Turbo Engines (2013-12-22T18:57:00+05:30)
![]() By Dan Mihalascu. The auto industry is going through a period of major changes, as ever stricter emissions regulations push automakers to ditch naturally aspirated engines for more fuel efficient downsized, turbocharged units. Sports car manufacturers can’t escape this trend either - not even Ferrari, known for its high-revving, naturally aspirated powerplants. Earlier this year we’ve seen a video of a Ferrari California testing what sounded like a turbocharged engine, which can only mean turbocharged Ferraris are on their way. Currently, all Ferrari models have naturally aspirated engines, but according to a recent report from MotorTrend magazine, the automaker will switch to turbocharged cars when the current lineup is replaced in the following years. While turbocharging will make Ferraris more fuel efficient and even more powerful, one can’t help but wonder what will happen to the special character of the cars made in Maranello? As they can’t rev as high as naturally aspirated engines, modern force-fed units lack the spine-tingling sound that is such an important part of a sports car – not to mention a supercar. I’m not saying the twin-turbocharged V8 in the Ferrari F40 didn’t sound good, but the naturally-aspirated V12 of its successor, the F50, had a much more dramatic roar. However, Ferrari’s switch to turbocharged units is not only caused by emissions standards, it is also a consequence of the change in Formula 1 regulations. Starting next season, naturally aspirated 2.4-liter V8 engines will be replaced by 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 units. Ferrari has always marketed its road cars as using technology derived from F1, so that makes sense. what's your opinion, is Ferrari's choice to go turbo the right thing for the brand?
