Seoul, (IANS): Elon Musk-run Tesla overtook Mercedes-Benz as the second-largest seller of imported vehicles in South Korea last month, industry data showed on Wednesday. The number of newly registered imported cars came to 25,263 units in March, up 6 per cent from 23,840 units a year ago, the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association said in a statement. Of those, BMW accounted for 6,549 units, followed by Tesla and Mercedes-Benz, with 6,025 units and 4,197 units, respectively, reports Yonhap News Agency. It marked the first time for Tesla to beat Mercedes-Benz in South Korea in terms of sales. Lexus and Volvo came in fourth and fifth, selling 1,218 units and 1,081 units, respectively. Industry watchers attributed Tesla's strong advance in sales to the confirmation of government EV subsidies last month. Also, Mercedes-Benz saw a significant decrease in registrations due to delivery delays caused by political tensions in the Middle East. In terms of individual models, Tesla's Model Y was the bestselling car, selling 5,934 units, followed by the BMW 5 and the Lexus ES, with 2,259 units and 822 units, respectively. Meanwhile, Tesla has released its first quarter (Q1) of 2024 delivery and production results. In Q1, the company said it produced over 433,000 vehicles and delivered approximately 387,000 vehicles. It deployed 4,053 MWh (megawatt-hour) of energy storage products in the first quarter, the highest quarterly deployment yet.Musk's Tesla overtakes Mercedes-Benz as 2nd largest seller of imported cars in March | MorungExpress | morungexpress.com, Musk's Tesla overtakes Mercedes-Benz as 2nd largest seller of imported cars in March | MorungExpress | morungexpress.com |

Mahindra to launch 3 small passenger planes in 2-3 years (2013-11-30T01:42:00+05:30)

By Nachiket Kelkar, Utility vehicles major Mahindra & Mahindra is now looking to take over the skies. The company, which acquired Australian companies Gipps Aero (aircraft maker) and Aerostaff (parts maker) in 2009, wants to change the aviation scene in India with its small aircraft. Its 10-seater turboprop airplane is expected to be launched sometime in mid-2014, while the 5-seater CNM5 aircraft (jointly developed with NAL) is currently undergoing certification tests and is likely to be launched in 2015. The company is also modernising an existing 18-seater aircraft, which is likely to be ready within three years. The group currently sells only one aircraft – the Gipps Aero single engine 8-seater GA8 Airvan – 200 units have already been sold worldwide, but there are already 5, 10 and 18-seater aircraft under various stages of developments, and these will be rolled out over the next 2-3 years. “When Mahindra started making jeeps many years ago, the logo was roads will follow. Now with aircraft we are saying runways will follow. We want to be a well-known brand in the under-20 seater airplane space,” Arvind Mehra, global CEO, Mahindra Aerospace, told HT. At present, Mahindra Aerospace produces 30 aircraft each year at its manufacturing facility in Australia, which is expected to go up to 40-50 per year, once production of new planes starts, said Mehra. The company also has a facility in the US, where currently 10 planes are being assembled each year. Cessna and Piper are among Mahindra’s main competitors in the small aircraft market. “There is an opportunity that needs to be tapped. You could, for instance, land in a metro like Delhi, hop on to a small plane, reach Agra in 30 minutes, watch the Taj Mahal and come back,” said Mehra. New Jaguar F-Type Coupe is a Sexy Looking Cat, Starts from $65,000 (2013-11-27T11:30:00+05:30)

After seeing the host of official photos of the new F-Type Coupe, we can confidently say that Jaguar has impressed us with its latest creation, even more so than the already available roadster version of the series that was previewed with the C-X16 concept from the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show. Set for a world premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show this week, Jaguar's new coupe model will go on sale in spring 2014, offering buyers a choice of three powertrains, including a range-topping "R" model, with prices starting from $65,000, excluding an $895 destination and handling fee, or $4,000 less than the roadster. The base version utilizes a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 pushing out 335HP (340PS) for a 0-60mph (96km/h) sprint in a competitive 5.1 seconds and a top speed of 161mph (259km/h). For $77,000 (sans D&H), you can step in the "S" model that draws power from a tweaked version of the 3.0-liter supercharged V6 putting out 375HP (380PS). This version reaches 60mph (96 km/h) in 4.8 seconds and tops out at 171mph (275km/h). Whereas the top Roadster model gets a 488HP (495PS) supercharged V8, the Coupe gains a high-performance "R" variant priced from $99,000 and equipped with the same 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine found in the XKR-S and XKR-S GT that's rated at 542hp (550PS). It can go from zero to 60mph in just 4.0 seconds, reaching an electronically limited top speed of 186 mph (299km/h). All three engines are paired to a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission with full manual sequential control that drives the rear wheels. A couple of other things that caught our attention from Jaguar's press release include the availability of either aluminum or panoramic glass roof panels that are bonded into the main roof structure, with torsional rigidity remaining identical regardless of which roof is fitted to the car, and an optional Carbon Ceramic Matrix (CCM) braking system with 398/380mm (15.7/15-inch) discs front/rear that will be available after introduction. Jaguar also noted that the two-seater model offers "trunk space - easily accommodating two sets of golf clubs - with an available power assisted tailgate". Note: On-the-road (OTR) prices in the UK start at £51,235 for the base Coupe, rising to £60,235 for the "S" model and £85,000 for the 542bhp "R" variant. Source: article.............
